14 Feb BONA DEA ESTATE | CHRISTOPHER & SANDRINE
Gumboot dancers, African drummers, milktart and koeksisters – ex-South African beauty Sandrine married her handsome Aussie-Filipino groom on Valentine’s day in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley of Hermanus, South Africa.
From the minute she first called me from Australia, and I nearly didn’t pick up my phone as the number looked odd, she crept right into my heart. We talked for 45 minutes about anything and everything. I jumped around from excitement when she booked because I could sense how well we got along and I knew it was going to be an incredible wedding. At that time only getting to know the voice on the phone, little did I know how physically beautiful she was and that she was an incredible photographer herself. (Check out Sandrine’s Instagram HERE)
The day when I first met Sandrine & Chris, we arrived at one of my favourite venues, Bona Dea Private Estate in Hermanus, known for its spectacular views. We were heartbroken to find that a mere two weeks before, the venue nearly went up in flames in the raging Overberg wildfires, burning up to the walls but leaving the building itself miraculously unscathed. When we arrived for the wedding, it was incredible to see how the surrounds has started to recover, how new life was starting to come through after such a horrible ordeal. This to me is so symbolic for your new life together. You have been through trying times, but you are ready for this new chapter in your life as you grow together.
Sandrine – you are not only physically one of the most beautiful women who have ever graced my lens but you spread love and kindness as far as you go. Every person who has the privilege of meeting you takes a little of you home. As Chris said on the day, he is not an emotional person but how could he not cry tears of happiness when he saw you come down the aisle. I am so honoured that I could be part of this beautiful day and that I have found a new friend! Congratulations to you both!
Their crazy-but-fun post-wedding shoot will be linked HERE. Thank you Landi for being my right hand with assistance on the day, the incredible dove photo was taken by her.
